Trending Now

Read any article, watch a lifestyle video or TV segment at this time of year, and you will no doubt learn about the trends on the horizon for the New Year. Like them or not, agree or disagree,  someone, a group or an industry informs us every year of the latest and greatest that is about to happen. So what’s in for 2025?

According to Real Simple, there are a host of trends about to burst through 2025’s door that will transform your home and life. Everything from paint colors to groceries, to travel will revolutionize how we go about our daily lives.

Some trends, however, never go out of style.  Home organizing is one. While celebrities and TV shows devoted to the topic brought more attention to it, it is always in vogue to maintain an organized home. Decluttering has certainly become a burgeoning trend and continues to be, as people understand and crave its benefits more than ever.

Organizing in 2025

If you want to be trendy in 2025, here are some ideas you might want to get behind.

  1. Begin the year by setting intentions, not resolutions. This piece of advice may not sound new or trendy so what is it doing on a trends list for 2025? Resolutions typically come packed with pressure that becomes all too much, way too soon in the New Year. The result is feeling like a failure, and that is not a good way to start anything. An intention is more of a mindset, offering guidance towards a desired way of life.

  2. Break it down. This organizing advice has also been alive and well for a very long time and continues to be invited to a new year. Your intention may be to declutter and organize your entire home, but it won’t happen in one round, so a realistic approach will be necessary. Break it down into small projects and chunks of time. The feeling of victory will replace the feeling of overwhelm and become motivation to continue.

  3. Develop new habits. This can apply to so many things, and may sound like a resolution, but think about the intentions set and what activities or behavior will support them. Develop a morning routine for instance that will set the tone for the day if it is your intention to begin each day in a positive mindset. That may be in the form of making your bed every morning, eating a healthy breakfast, or taking a walk. Little things may yield big results.

  4. Create sensible space. More often than not, our homes are filled with more stuff than we know what to do with, and not enough space to store it all. First, be discerning about new purchases or anything that you are thinking about bringing into your home. Then be sure to make the best possible use of your home’s space. Categorizing items, creating zones and labeling will make it clear to everyone in the household where things live. Some things may need to go if your intention is to keep a well organized home.

  5. Keep it Simple. Whatever system you choose should be easy to use. Complicated, intricate systems may look impressive on the outside, but can become frustrating very quickly resulting in abandonment and disorganization all over again. Universal and sustainable storage solutions are often simple and have staying power. Opt for simple over gimmicky, every time.

Organizing is not a one and done activity. Although a decluttering project can be completed within a specific time frame, maintaining an organized home is a way of life that will need attention and maintenance over time. So is it a new trend to usher into a new year? Not exactly. You don’t need to worry later on that someone from 2025 is going to call asking for their organized home back. It’s just good sound advice to invite into your home and life year after year.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what trends are popping for 2025, here are a few:

  • Color: Pantone has named ‘mocha mousse’ as the color of the year.

  • Home decor: cozy (as in vintage and romantic), darker woods, eco-friendly, sustainable products

  • Food and drink: non-alcoholic drinks, scratch baking and tinned fish

  • Travel: off the beaten path and more remote locations

Happy Trendy New Year!
