You Do That? Part 2

In the first part of You Do That?, the work of a Senior Move Manager® was introduced along with its parent membership and accrediting organization, the National Association of Senior and Specialty Move Managers (NASMM). Move Managers, and Senior Move Managers® in particular, provide a lot more than boots on the ground service. In Part 2 of this article, the benefits of working with a NASMM Senior Move Manager® will be revealed.

Senior Move Managers® are professionals who specialize in assisting older adults and their families with the emotional and physical aspects of relocation. They provide this support to those who choose to age in place as well. You can think of us as a one-stop shop to not only do some of the physical work of moving, but to connect you with the many services necessary for a seamless and successful transition whether you are moving to a new home or rightsizing to stay in your current home.

Moving is said to be among the top stressors in life. One survey ranks it more stressful than having kids or getting divorced.  It certainly involves a change, one from the familiar to the unfamiliar. Moving not only includes lots of physical labor, but requires the detailed coordination of people, supplies, timelines and more, not to mention the emotions that are inherent in any move. For the senior population, the stress of a move can be exacerbated by declining health and mobility, and the anxiety of what to do with years, decades even, of beloved possessions.

Very often, the first inquiry comes from an adult child of a senior requesting help for a parent move. Living out of state, raising a family and career obligations are just some of the barriers to being able to offer the kind of help they know is needed. Sometimes a senior has no family to lean on and a Senior Move Manager® can fill the gap of necessary tasks and logistic management as well as emotional support.

The Benefits of working with a Move Manager

  • As members of NASMM, we have a responsibility to adhere to the principles of a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. We are all required to hold liability insurance and participate in ongoing education programs, which is especially important to maintain certifications and accreditation credentials.

  • NASMM members recognize that every individual and move is unique and we offer personalized services to meet the unique needs of a client, while importantly, preserving the client’s dignity and autonomy.

  • Move Managers cast a wide and varied net across extensive referral networks and coordinate all aspects of a move. We take on this responsibility rather than the client juggling the myriad of associated logistics during an already stressful time.

  • Senior Move Managers® are educated in the distinctive needs of the senior population, apply that knowledge, and tailor the move experience to their specific circumstances.

  • Through many layers of education, experience and expertise, Senior Move Managers® possess significant resources and varied approaches that save clients money, relieve stress and produce quality results.

  • Working with a Senior Move Manager® means that you have full access to NASMM as well. NASMM offers both its members and consumers the support of its Ethics Compliance Commission.

Move Managers and Senior Move Managers® come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences that allows a multi-faceted approach to the move process. We understand the emotional and physical facets of relocating and/or aging in place. We share an unwavering commitment to connecting with seniors and people of all ages, and a desire to perform meaningful work.

Go ahead, share the secret!
